person-holding-book-from-shelf-1370298.j

A library card is free to Butler County residents with proper identification. As long as you live in Butler County, you can apply for a library card in person at any of the 9 libraries in Butler County.

Your card is permanent and is renewed each year. It entitles you to borrow materials from any of the 9 libraries within the Butler County Federated Library System.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. A parent or legal guardian’s signature is required for anyone under 18 years of age.

  • Proper identification is a driver’s license with current address OR two other forms of identification with current address, such as a recent utility bill, Pennsylvania identification card, or a bank statement that show you are a Butler County resident.

  • Lost or destroyed cards may be replaced at a cost of $2.50.

  • You must present your card to check out materials.

  • Once you have your Butler library card, with a PA Access sticker, you are eligible to also get library cards in other counties of Pennsylvania.

How do I access my library account online?

You can access your library account online to see materials you currently have checked out, renew materials, and place holds.

  • Click the "My Account" button at the top of this page. You will be taken to the Butler County Federated Library System catalog.

  • In the pop-up screen, enter your password and pin. Your password is your entire library card number without any spaces. Your pin is the last four digits of your library card number.

  • Click the blue "Log in" button. Once logged in, you can create an EZ password and pin. You can also always use your library card number and pin to log in.

  • Once logged in, you can see what materials you have checked out, renew materials, and place holds.

Do my items renew automatically?

Yes, if any of the items you have checked out on your account are eligible for renewal, when the due date approaches, the system will automatically renew the items for you. Items can now be renewed up to six (6) times, giving you lots of extra time to enjoy your materials!

This change was adopted by BCFLS as a way to improve access to library materials for our patrons. We understand that it can be hard to keep track of item due dates and that fines can build up quickly when items become overdue. Automatic renewals are intended to remove some of the barriers to checking out library materials and offer a better service for you.

Sometimes though, an item will not be automatically renewed. This includes: items that do not offer renewals (such as WiFi hotspots, laptops, or any hourly, in library use checkouts), if an item is on hold for someone else, if materials are governed as rentals and a rental renewal charge is present, or if there’s fines on your account.

You can log into your BCFLS Patron Account to see which items were automatically renewed. Stop by or call your library with any questions about automatic renewals!
