About BCFLS

Mission Statement:

BCFLS pursues, provides and promotes the highest quality public library service possible for all residents of Butler County through collaboration, cooperation and coordination.

The Butler County Federated Library System (also known as The Library System of Butler County) was founded by resolutions of the County Commissioners in 1987.

The purpose of the Butler County Federated Library System is to operate a system of autonomous public libraries within Butler County to promote, develop and improve library (and informational) services for all County residents.

The Library System coordinates library services offered by the individual member libraries and operates Bookmobile service to those areas of the county that do not have stationary libraries.

The Butler County Federated Library System also provides the hardware, software, and technical support for the countywide library automation system. This project makes possible the online catalog database and the use of one library card throughout the county.

The one card/one county slogan inspired the design of the logo for the Library System of Butler County. This logo and simplified name were developed by Slippery Rock University students in Dr. Mark Banks' PR Campaigns class, Spring semester, 2001.
